  1. Look at Hitler, who was a product of radio. Hitler 
  2. could not have survived one hour on TV. . . . 
  3. Everything that sounded so important and 
  4. earnest on radio would have been just comic on 
  5. TV. Any process, pushed to its limits, flips. The 
  6. specialized acoustic image of the demagogue on 
  7. radio, or talking movie, is suddenly shifted into 
  8. iconic or ‚Äúcartoon‚Äù form on TV. Earlier I indicated 
  9. why the TV image is a kind of x-ray mesh of lines 
  10. and dots that comes at the viewer. It is an effect 
  11. quite different from photo or movie, for these 
  12. latter leave the viewer relatively detached and 
  13. uninvolved. But to bring intensity to the TV 
  14. medium is fatal, or at least comic, as witness
